Craft Book Month Blog Hop

I am so excited to be a part of this years Craft Book Month hosted by Craft Buds. This is such a great blog hop because there are so many books out on the market and it is always nice to see a sneak peak of some of the projects that are in them and what people are making from them.

Currently, I am reading and planning a quilt from Camille Roskelley's new book, Simply Retro.  I love the little houses in this quilt... so cute!

This month happens to also be the release of my newest book, Sew Modern Baby, so obviously, I just had to share about a project in it. Sew Modern Baby is a modern take on projects for baby and mom.

High-contrast fabrics were used to educate children from infancy. Mixed with accents of linen fabrics for the heirloom quality that can be passed down for generations to come.

When designing the projects for my book, my mom gave me an owl that my grandmother had for a very long time. I am not sure if this owl was made by my grandma or my great granny, but it is old. My grandmother collects owls and is something I will always cherish. I can just imagine that the fabrics used on this were from old tattered clothing and every piece is hand stitched on.

This inspired me to create a smaller spunkier version of my grandma's owl for the book.  One that was all machine stitched and the feathers were double secured so little hands couldn't rip them out.

Ollie was born and I love the way his little feathers just flock about. Each one has their own personality and combined make up this younger spunky toy that baby's can enjoy.

It's a BABY!!!

Okay... so it is not a real baby, but it does have Baby in the title and it does take at least 9 months to make before it arrives. This kind of baby is my newest addition... Sew Modern Baby by Angela Yosten {aka: Me} published by Stash Books, an imprint of C&T Publishing.

My advance copy of my new book is here and it is so very exciting to see it in print... even smells like a baby. Alright, maybe not, but it is still super cute!

There are 19 stimulating projects contained in this book and they are all modern in style and feature high contrast fabrics mixed with a touch of linen for that heirloom quality.

I came up with the projects in this book when I became pregnant with our 3rd child. This is not your typical baby book either. This projects in my book focuses on the education and stimulation of a child's developmental process. Infants cannot see pastel colors when they are first born. Black and White are the first colors a baby can see. So why not create a quilt or toy that the baby can actually enjoy and experience first hand?

So with this in mind, I set out to create fun and exciting projects that both baby and mom can enjoy.

The toys include textures and sounds using rattlers, squeakers, and crinkle plastic that are all baby safe and sparks your baby's natural curiosity.

For mom, there are projects such as a tote bag, card holder and nursing cover up with a hidden pocket and clippie to easily keep track of which side you nursed on last.

The projects range in complexity from super simple for beginners to a bit more complicated for the advanced sewer. Applique techniques, quilting, bag and toy construction are just a few of the skills you will learn in this book.

So, get your machines out and start sewing.  Pre-order your copy today! In Stores everywhere coming September/October 2013. For retail shops, you can pre-order this book now from United Notions, C&T Publishing and other distributors.

New Books from Stash Books and C&T Publishing

I recently received the new Summer/Fall 2013 Catalog from C&T Publishing and am very excited to share my newest book and one that I contributed to... plus a couple others.

Introducing... Sew Modern Baby by Angela Yosten. I think this is probably my most favorite book so far. It was designed with Baby and Mom in mind, but the quilts and other projects can really be enjoyed by everyone because of their modern designs.

This is not your typical baby book yet is packed full of baby necessities, quilts, toys and more!  I wanted the projects in this book to be able to grow with the baby as he/she got older. So you will not find any pastel colors, sail boats or other baby themed objects within this book. What you will find are bold high contrast colors mixed with linen fabrics, owls, pandas, and simple modern designs.

Sew Modern Baby will be in stores September 2013.  Pre-order your book today!

My book is also right next to a fabulous new book, Modern One-Block Quilts by Natalia Bonner and Kathleen Whiting. Natalia did all the beautiful quilting on my quilts in Sew Modern Baby, so I am thrilled to be next to her in the C&T Publishing catalog. Congrats Natalia and Kathleen on your new book! Modern One-Block Quilts will be in stores in October 2013.

Next up is the Amish Quilts: The Adventure Continues book compiled by Lynn Koolish. Amish Quilts book features 21 Amish-inspired quilt projects, plus a photo gallery with 17 more quilts. I am excited to have 2 new quilt designs featured in the gallery section of this new book. Not to mention being featured among some of the industries top quilt designers such as Roberta Horton, Peggy Martin, Angela Walters, Reynola Pakusich, Cathie Hoover, Monique Dillard, Linda Johansen, and more! This book is also celebrating the 30 year anniversary of C&T Publishing. So, be sure to get your book in October 2013!

Don't forget... my very first published book, Stop. Go. Quilt. Sew! by Angela Yosten. This is a great resource for machine applique and reverse applique techniques featuring my take on scrappy applique. Learn how to use your scraps and adapt them into your own scrap applique designs.  The designs in this book are geared for boys (young and old). If you guy likes cars and trains, then he will love these road sign designs to go with all things that move. Available for purchase now!

Just above my book in the C&T Publishing catalog... is Camille Roskelley's newest book, Simply Retro. Love her new book! I have already flagged a quilt in her new book that I want to make using my Flats collection from Moda Fabrics. I am pretty sure they put these books in alphabetical order in the catalog, but I feel pretty lucky to be sharing pages and spreads with some awesome people in our industry.

Lots of fun new books coming this fall... what books will you put on your Santa's Wish List?
