My Dinner Date with MBS

Welcome to my kitchen! For those of you that have not been here before, I welcome you and hope you will stay a while. For all my returning guests... I am so happy to see you again!  {My little helpers are glad you are here, too!}

I am very excited to share with you the latest and fabulous addition to the Moda Bake Shop, Fresh Fabric Treats BOOK published by Stash Books

The book is scheduled to ship out in May 2011, so be sure to pre-order your copy so you can be one of the first to own!  There are 16 NEW Delicious Treats that range from quilts to tote bags which all use Moda precut fabrics.  {Did you know there were such things as Moda Bake Shop eggs? not really... but there should be.}

I am so thrilled to be able to contribute to this book!  Here is just a sampling of what projects you will find in the book.  {Can you guess which one is mine?  Hint... it's the pillow.}

Just a little bit about me... I am a mom to two beautiful children and a wife to a very supportive husband of 11 years. {in 11 days it will be 12 years!}. I have started to develop my own pattern line as an outlet to be able to share my thoughts and creations to those that enjoy to sew and create as much as I do. Be sure to check out my pattern designs and free tutorials. I really hope you enjoy what I have to share and can find the inspiration needed to get you going on your next project.

I am a full-time web developer for Moda Fabrics and work under the direction of this talented lady. I also manage the Moda Bake Shop and have been a Chef since the very beginning and now currently have 17 recipes posted

We launched the Moda Bake Shop website in January 2009 and have been amazed by the response and submissions we receive on a daily basis.  The website would not be what it is today without the talented Chef's that have contributed to the site over the past two years and all you readers that visit the site.

Jenny Garland, who is also one of our talented Chef's featured in the book and on the website, is our MBS Editor and has taken over much of the responsibilities for maintaining the site.  She is also having her Dinner Date today, so be sure to go check out what she is cooking up and enter to win her giveaway hosted on her blog.

By now, you all should have already visited the other 14 Chef's kitchens that are featured in this fabulous new book.  If not, you must go check them all out and see what exciting things they have to share with you on their Dinner Date.

My favorite Moda precut is the Layer Cake. There are so many things you can do with a Layer Cake...
1. Cut it into 5" squares and instantly you have 4 charm packs.
2. It is the perfect size for applique's and you can take advantage of using all the prints in the collection.
3. There are many other ways to cut a Layer Cake and it goes together so quickly and easily, you can get a quilt top done in a day!

So... I have cooked up a very special dessert for you today, using a Layer Cake, to complete your Progressive Dinner.

I present to you... the Layer Cake Pincushion. I hope you enjoy! Click here for the Printer Friendly Recipe.

In celebration of the launch of this new book {btw... did I mention how fabulous this book is?}, I am giving away a copy of the new Fresh Fabric Treats book and a Moda Layer Cake.

To top it all off {with a Cherry on top}, Moda is giving away a $200.00 retail value of  Moda precuts (1 each of every type of precut... layer cake, charm pack, fat quarter bundle and MORE!) AND a copy of the Fresh Fabric Treats Book!

To enter leave me a comment with:
1. Your favorite Moda Precut
2. Name your favorite project that is designed by me on the Moda Bake Shop.
3. Be sure to leave a way for me to contact you incase you are randomly selected as the WINNER!

  1. My favorite MBS project of yours is the Vintage Bear Paw. I actually have charm packs of Glace that I've been holding on to. I think they are destined to be made into that quilt!=)

  2. OH MY!
Ok, with your projects, I LOVE the authentic kids clothes, the flip flopping top (can't remember the exact name, sorry), the eggs- my daughter had sooo much fun last easter making these with me, flat mat and emilie, I definetly love the projects that most involve children!
My favorite pre-cut so far has to be jelly rolls, but I am eager to try out layer cakes- they seem so useful!

  3. Hi Angela,
This is my first visit to your site, and I will definately be back. Love it!! I like all your projects on MBS, but if I have to pick one it would be the vintage bear paw quilt and the coasters (ok 2, I couldn't pick just one). My favorite precut is the fat quarter, cause it is the only one I have used. I really want to try a layer cake next. Congratulations on the book. :)

  4. Pick a favorite? That's not easy!! I think I'll go with the Lattice Shower Curtain. Although I liked the burp cloth and bib one too.
I've only used a charm pack pre-cut (and that was just in the last month!), and I loved it! I would like to try a jelly roll next. I have a feeling once I do, I won't be buying yardage and cutting it up myself anymore!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hi Angela,

My favorite Moda pre-cut is the charm pack but lately I have been eyeing layer cakes with new interest. I never realized that I could get 4 charm packs out of a layer cake, hahaha.

My favorite Bakeshop pattern by you is the Princess Pea Blanket. I have made 2 and I have another cut out but haven't sewn it yet. I love presonalizing the little princess with different skin and hair colors.

Thanks for the cake pattern. With me starting Weight Watchers this month it is just the kind of treat I need :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Charm packs are my favorite, I love how little and cute they are. It is super hard to pick my favorite MBS pattern of yours but I'd have to say the eggs. With Easter around the corner, I think I need to whip a few of those up!! So cute.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Your kids are adorable and excellent hosts and models! There's really no way I can just choose one of your projects as a favorite... but I will say that your simply modern quilt caught my eye and I am determined to make something similar!
I keep posting on other's blogs that I would love to have the fat quarters (because I never have enough cash on hand to get them) but I have to say that one of my favorite patterns (large stars for king quilt) uses the layer cake!

  35. My favorite precut is the Layer Cake or Fat Quarter. As far as your recipes, I love the quilted knapsack and the Simply Modern quilts. They are adorable. Thank you for this opportunity. tasha(at)neodev(dot)com

  36. Not many things better than a fabric cake! Mmmm, that looks good enough to eat! I've never worked with a layer cake, only charm packs. But I am definitely drawn to squares when I see quilts I like. :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Rags to Ruffles is so cute! I'm new to precuts, so I'd try any, but I'd probably choose larger ones, like layer cake or fat quarters, for making bags. Thanks for hosting this giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I can't deceided between the Simply Modern Quilt, boy version or the flat people. I'll end up making both at some point! I have only ever bought jelly rolls, but I have loved how many projects I can do with them.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I totally agree with you on the layer cake being my fav. It is so versatile. My favorite MBS recipe by the lovely Ms. Angela would be the Princess Pea Blanket. I didn't realize so many of the recipes I've used were yours. Yeah for MBS! I'm really excited about Fresh Treats. Thanks for all you do to bring awesome free projects to the tables of quilter/crafters everywhere.

  41. I'm in love with (and have fabric set aside for) the Princess Pea Blanket. That was one of the first quilts that I fell in love with and started following quilting blogs thereafter. Thank you!
And as for precuts, I think jelly rolls are my thing more than any other.
Thanks for such an exciting giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks for the fab giveaway! My favorite precut is a fat quarter bundle, because when it comes to fabric more is better! But layer cakes are much more budget friendly, and I often buy them. I can't wait to read your tips on cutting them! I really like your Flat Emelie & Matt project. That would be a hit with my guys.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I also love layer cakes and my fave recipe is the knapsack!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I like your bear paw or the modern quilt. It's hard to chose. I suppose it would depend on the fabric what I'd choose. I don't really have a fav precut since I'm so new to them. But I am just trying out a charm pack and a jelly roll and I really love them already. But I think that I'd like a large piece of fabric to use. So maybe the fat quarter pack might be for me.

I also adore your children's clothes. Unfortunately, my baby is 29 so I'll have to wait for grandkids!

  97. I love your hair clip tutorial. Never thought to make one with a button. I am definitely making some for my daughter--thanks! My favorite pre-cut has been the charm pack. I love the size and like being able to use all the fabrics. Now that you mentioned the layer cake can be cut into four charm packs (why didn't I ever think of that?), I'll have to try it. It'll be so much better than buying three or four charm packs for a project! ;)

  129. Hi Angela, It is difficult to say which of her designs is my favorite , there are so many! so I say some, for example, Sunday Best, Princess Birthday Shirt, Layer Cake Pincushion, Authentic Toddler Wear, the great Snail Softie, and the Candy Wrappers as I would love be lucky to have a friend who could send me some chocolates from Hershey Here in Spain they do not sell and would bring me such good memories.
I love all Moda pre-cut are fantastic, is an extraordinary way to have a complete collection of fabrics with a low cost, and so that you can make each project with a different collection.
I really love a fat quarter bundle, there are lots of fabrics, a complete collection but if I must choose the thinking clever, I prefer one jelly roll and one layer cake, both from the same collection, then you have no problems with any project.
Well, I cross my fingers, I hope to be lucky.
    Regards from Spain.
